Straw Bale Garden
Our largest project of the year will be establishing a straw bale garden on the school grounds. When the planting season hits, we will plant herbs and vegetables right in our straw bales. We are hoping to obtain enough vegetables that we can fill 10 bales.
Once we have planted, all students at the school will have the opportunity to learn about the process of growing plants, as well as the environmental impact of urban gardening. Plants produce oxygen and clean the air, which is especially important in urban setting. We are hoping that our local greenhouse staff will come to the school and teach us about growing our own food.
When we harvest the crop in the fall, we arew excited to donate all of our vegetables and herbs help the less fortunate in our community. It is important that we do what we can to give back to the community. We at Paris Central are so lucky.
We will continue to update this page with pictures as we condition the bales, plant, tend to our crop and harvest. If you have any knowledge or expertise in urban gardening to share with us, please contact Mr. Walker at the school or by email.
